We are currently seeking a team member who believes in the “extra mile” philosophy to fulfill our Heavy Duty Alignment SVC Technician role.

A Heavy Duty Alignment SVC Technician repairs and maintains both diesel and gasoline powered class 5 through 8 trucks. This position will be under direct supervision and guidance from the service manager and/or branch manager. Works on and occasionally oversees other technicians that inspect all componentry related to Heavy Truck and Trailer equipment so alignments can be properly performed.

All mechanical technicians are eligible for a $3,500 retention BONUS and are automatically enrolled!! In addition, technicians are eligible for a $700 monthly commission!!

What You’ll Do on a Typical Day:

  • Completely understand the following: Ackerman steering theory, angle and steering axis inclination, king pin offset and scrub radius, setback, ride height, and the four key components in wheel alignments (caster, camber, toe, thrust angle).
  • Diagnose Heavy Duty vehicles by identifying alignment related issues and/or any other existing issues that would negatively affect the vehicles operation.
  • Inspect all components such as axles, wheel ends, steering, suspension, brackets, hangers, torque arms, and frames to determine excessive wear, broken parts, and safety issues.
  • Perform repairs such as brake jobs, king pin replacements, wheel end service, steering box and steering component replacement, suspension component replacement, etc.
  • Repair or replace faulty parts, as indicated by required testing or visual observations.
  • Examine all truck componentry during the alignment process to ensure that all parts and componentry are within acceptable wear limits to allow for a safe and proper alignment.
  • Ability to connect truck through an interface adapter and cabling to reset the steering wheel sensors after alignment has taken place.
  • Lubricates moving parts such as driveline components, hinged parts, suspension, and steering system components.
  • Perform valve and injector overhead adjustments according to OEM procedures.
  • Ability to perform periodic maintenance on SCR, DOC, DPF, and DEF systems as required by engine manufacturers.
  • Understands vehicle operations at the systems level. Can interpret and communicate vehicle failures to the component level per VMRS.
    • Practical tests demonstrated and audited by management.
  • Demonstrates understanding of complex electronic control systems (multiplex) to include collision avoidance, lane departure, stability control, body controllers, electronic engine, and transmission controls.
  • Operate alignment equipment and computer system (Hunter Alignment).
  • Understands where and how to apply resources as they relate to the following: Maddenco POS system, Mitchell 1 (Truck Series & Pro Demand), Time Management Skills, Technician Productivity, Direct & Indirect Labor, and OEM Specific Programs.
  • Proficient in OEM specific systems and components, must take advantage of factory available training as directed, and occasionally perform training as requested.

This position will be based in a commercial/industrial tire and/or mechanical truck service center at one of our Snider Branches. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, interacts with moving mechanical parts/equipment on a daily basis, and the noise level at the service center is usually moderate to high.

Our Ideal Candidate:

Education or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 3-5 years' experience within the industry or related management position.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must have a clean driving record.

Certificates and Licenses:

  • Valid Class C Driver's License and must be insurable to drive by company standards.
  • Federal Annual and Brake Inspector certification.
  • Commercial TIA certification required after six months of employment.
  • Medium/Heavy Truck ASE T5 Suspension and Steering certified, Master ASE preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
  • Safety conscious at all times.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to provide your own hand tools, as well as other specialized tools to effectively perform job duties.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Must be able to work in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer and/or smart phone skills.
  • Knowledge with diagnostic equipment (OEM, aftermarket or applicable as determined by manufacture).
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Related Software order processing systems.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of VMRS codes amd TMC recommended practices.
  • Basic understanding in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills, as well as close attention to detail.
